Hedgehog 792 <a href="http://hedgehog9310.spaces.live.com"target"-new"<b>Hedgehog</b></a> is a young Beijing band building a following with their rip-roaring live shows and polished recordings. They recently performed at the popular, <a href="http://lyw.sh.gov.cn/en/intro/index.html"target"-new"<b>Shanghai</b></a> live music venue, <a href="http://www.shift.jp.org/en/archives/2008/03/yuyintang.html"target"-new"<b>Yuyintang</b></a>, and gave their thoughts about the future of China's music scene. Their first two albums, released in ’04 and ’07, harnessed the gleeful spontaneity of their live shows, reinforced with solid, inventive compositions; their debut <i>Noise Hit World</i> is considered one of the best studio albums by a Chinese band. Their third album, to be released soon, will move away from the charmingly nonsensical English lyrics of their previous works and focus more on Chinese songs. Their sound and look is undeniably marketable--they bring teen beat idol freshness and Ramones-esque edginess. Z.O. (guitar), BoX (bass), and Atom (drums) have the mop-topped charisma to make it big abroad, but must first contend with the difficulties of leaving their country to perform elsewhere. For Chinese rock bands, radio and television are highly inaccessible and although Hedgehog’s label, <a href="http://www.modernsky.com/aboutmodernsky_e.htm"target"-new"<b>Modern Sky Recordings</b></a>, is one of China’s most noted, their albums get poor distribution and bring in little revenue.
