Black Lips took a much-needed break toward the tail end of 2009, but they still managed to kept busy, writing and recording a few things here and there. Still, it wasn't long before the road would call again. Their touring schedule was to be expected this time of year. Like every major "it"-band or artist, Australia and New Zealand (in mid summer) are up first, in sync for festival season and all Laneway Festival dates.

But as a little added surprise, they've also extended the trip for a few dates in Japan (still to be announced). These are sure to be some memorable shows. Short-and-sweet as the stint might be in Japan, it's definitely bound to interesting. Need we even mention their last trip to India? Anyway, we caught up with the the band just before they took stage here in San Francisco, asking them what they looked forward to most, and then handed simply them a few flip cameras for the road. The plan: to document the trip in the most organic way possible. Directly from their hands to your eyeballs, in few short weeks we'll see just what sort of mayhem these dirty hands get up to. So yeah, take it easy fellas, but don't let up on the gas too much—you've got a show and tell session in the next few month to come....

Of course there's no need to idealize the bad-boy image too much. The guys are all quite tame when they're not all that influenced, or smashed as they might be on stage. For example, Jared seeks the summer again, some good old-fashioned Aussie humor, and a little surf if he can fit it in. As for Japan, they all find themselves completely open and ready to explore everything they can. Joe in particular seems ready to eat his fair share of sushi, while Ian—and we might just call him the cheekiest one of the bunch—well, lets just say he's ready to tell his friends all about it....
