When it comes to rock n' roll, The Wildhearts are like teachers. The British band formed in 1989 by the troubled red-haired genius Ginger, has been through the possible and impossible when it comes to rock n' roll. This is no exaggeration! I'm not just talking about the basic drugs, sex and rock n'roll lifestyle that they actually mastered with decadent grace, but also about everything that a band of the genre can go through and do. They have already influenced a whole generation of bands after them and carry on a heavy but melodic sound that really sticks to our heads. It had been said that they influenced almost all of today's British heavy metal bands. No joke.

In 1995, The Wildhearts, who are already releasing their ninth studio album, destroyed a famous European rock magazine’s office for not wanting to take the lies that the vehicle published about the band. “It was a fight for true journalism”, they said at the time. The Wildhearts went through ups and down for years. When "Endless Nameless" came out in 1997, they were searching for a natural and necessary musical evolution. It pissed off some fans - the usuals - but that never stopped the band from doing exactly what they wanted to do. After all those years, group members changed, the band went into hiatus, and even broke up for some time due to Ginger's personal problems. Only somehow, they are never able to die.

As loyal defenders of rock n' roll, the Wildhearts came back from the ashes with open wings. In August 31st they’ll release (via Backstage Alliance) their second studio album with new material since the powerful return.

I caught up with bassist Scott Sorry in Helsinki, Finland, and talked about "Chutzpah", the band's new pride and joy.
Check it out!

Special thanks to: Allan Lopes, the biggest Wildhearts fan I know.
